Factsheet 14: alternative, ethical and fair trade fashion
A number of companies selling clothes that are calling themselves "ethical", "alternative" or "fairly traded" have sprung up in the wake of the international anti-sweatshop movement, aiming to meet the needs of a rising number of consumers, individual and institutional, now demanding "clean clothes".
The standards and processes these initiatives use vary from one to the other. The question they raise is to what extent they comply with the criteria for ethical production promoted by the Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) and its national platforms, and by multi-stakeholder initiatives such as the Ethical Trading Initiative and the Fair Wear Foundation...
