27th January 2010 and 12TH February 2010

Exhibition and Workshops: Craftivism

How can we re-design the fashion industry so that the rights of the people making our clothes are respected?

As part of the Craftivism Exhibition, currently taking place at the Arnolfini Gallery Bristol, Labour Behind the Label have worked with artist Stephanie Syjuco to create a workspace in which visitors are invited to rework and remake old and new clothes and question larger issues about systems of global trade, manufacturing and labour rights. Through the exhibition the intention is to collectively produce a limited edition fashion line.

Labour Behind the Label/Fashioning an Ethical Industry will be running the following workshops in the gallery space:

Wednesday 27th January 2010 2.00pm: Ethical Fashion - reshaping the way we make and consume fashion

Friday 12th February 2010 1.00pm: Living Wages -  connecting workers and consumers to create a global campaign

The workshops are free and open to everybody.

Craftivism is an exhibition that involves 14 projects developed by artists and collectives that work with craft-based traditions and activist practices, and who employ the tactics of 'craftivism' (combining crafting & activism) to question the prevailing codes of mass consumerism. For further information please see the Arnofini website.

For information on getting to the exhibition please see the Arnolfini website.
