Vivienne Westwood calls for direct action

The iconic fashion designer hit the news this month as she called for us to stand up, dress up, walk tall and tackle the problems the world faces. Westwood has never been afraid to take a political stance and her commitment to encourage engagement with humanitarian and environmental issues seems to be growing. Her recent collection shown in Paris in February, was called +5o, a reference to the temperature James Lovelock (author and originator of Gaia theory) predicts the Earth will increase by when carbon dioxide exceeds certain levels in the atmosphere. While, last year Vivienne launched her manifesto, "Active Resistance to Propaganda", which focuses on the cultural and political inertia brought about by excessive consumption in modern life.
