LCF launch Sustainability Centre

The Centre for Sustainable Fashion (CSF) will provide information about sustainability within the fashion sector across the entire supply chain. The centre hopes to play a leading role in bringing together sector experts and projects to lead the debate and champion the adoption of sustainable practise aligned to consumers, industry and government needs.  The CSF will also seek to develop and strengthen new and existing partnerships with organisations who are already operating in this arena.

Dr Francis Corner Head of LCF commented 'Environmental and ethical concerns should be high on everyone's agenda, as fundamental considerations for any forward thinking fashion organisation. We must fight for change to ensure not just better lives for people currently in the industry, but also to safeguard future generations. The creation of the CSF underlines our commitment to this sector."

The project will be rolled out in a number of stages.  Initially a detailed audit and research project will be carried out to establish current industry engagement across all levels and to gauge current activity in this area.  The research will delve into the complexities and challenges that greening of the supply chain will create.  Funding is currently being secured for Phase 2 of the project, which is expected to begin in September 2007, with the eventual launch planned for April 2008.
