Students explore the issues relating to workers in garment manufacture through a selection of different activities that lead to their Communications portfolio. Ethical and sustainable issues related to design are explored, in particular the use of recycled materials. Each main assignment has an ethical/sustainable or environment link of some sort. The two most substantial assignments are both six weeks long (14hrs /week):
- The customised denim project covers recycling; charity work; customising clothes (reusing); factory conditions; cotton production; denim manufacture and chemical use.
- The Topshop project involves the design of a fair trade bag produced by a fairtrade producer in Lima for the Topshop customer .
