(2008) BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and ClothingThis year (08/09) students are completing a series of projects which cover contemporary artists, cultures and fair trade issues. The students have produced hand made books and portfolios using only recycled materials. They are currently working on a project with a recycling company called 'Veolia' in which they are not allowed to buy anything at all to complete the work. No sketch books or paper, they have to use found items and they have to produce a design for a T-shirt using rubbish as inspiration. We have continued with the size zero debate and have developed this in a Photoshop project where the students 'enhanced' photos of themselves taken at a photoshoot using their own designed and manufactured outfits, to recreate images as a magazine would. In 2006/7 students completed a series of projects which covered contemporary artists, cultures and fair trade issues. The students produced a screen to promote fair trade within different cultures using the contemporary artists work as inspiration. Possible projects this year include climate change, recycling or a project based on 'one persons journey' which may be about someone that's been displaced or injured. The students will also produce a report on the size zero issue as part of key skills. In the past issues dealing with the use of fur within the industry and urban landscape issues have been covered.
