Deadline for short applications 17th April 2009

Organic by Design 2009

For the second year, PAN UK is offering to support selected final year fashion design students who wish to use organic cotton as part of their graduate collection. The aim is to encourage and support students to showcase the creative potential for organic cotton products in the fashion world - both in the academic arena and beyond it into the industry. Up to 2 grants of £350 and 8 grants of up to £250 each are available.

In order to be illegible for the grant, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

They must be a final year student of fashion design, enrolled in school of fashion design within the UK at undergraduate (BA, BSc) or graduate level (MA) and required to create a graduate/post graduate clothing collection in spring term 2009.

They must commit to use organic cotton as a major component of the whole fashion statement of their collection (however other materials may be used, see details in the grant guideline)

Beneficiaries will be selected according to their understanding of the sustainability issues associated with conventional cotton production (environmental, social, and economic sustainability). They should understand the wide range of benefits organic cotton can offer. They should also be able to demonstrate good creative skills, and the ability to produce a well researched and fashion forward concept that can be taken forward into final collections.
