Legacy Project
Fashioning an Ethical Industry will be scaling down its operations over the next year. The end of the major grant from the European Commission in May 2010 will signal the end of the project in its current form, after five years of bringing garment worker issues into fashion colleges. We're proud of the role we've played in the coverage of working conditions across fashion related courses in the UK, but realise that a lot still needs to be done to ensure the great work that all the tutors and students have been doing, continues into the future.
Project description: We would like tutors to set students innovative and creative project briefs to ensure the legacy of the FEI project continues after our funding reduces. That legacy should ensure that the future generation of industry players can learn about ethical issues, and specifically garment workers. The project brief might be aimed at reaching a wider number of current fashion students, whether in your own university or beyond, or it could be aimed at ensuring that students in the future will be reached.
Who the project is aimed at: Tutors on any college or university fashion-related course who set projects for students can participate. We know that you will be come up with some amazing ideas, but wanted to reassure you that we are thinking of a broad range of activities from collections to ideas for business plans that could be available on our website, from e-zines to exhibitions, and from slide shows with images to fashion shows. What's important is that students can learn about how workers are affected by the garment industry or what's being done to improve the situation facing workers.
Presentation of final products: Fashioning an Ethical Industry will feature some projects at our international end-of-project conference in London, spring 2010 and on our website.
Support Available: Fashioning an Ethical Industry can support tutors and students who take part in the Legacy Project or or connect universities and colleges with workers' rights organisations oversees.
To register your interest in taking part in the legacy project please complete the PDF form by 30th September 2009 or earlier if you want FEI support. We'd be happy to discuss ideas prior to this. Final deadline for completed projects for inclusion in the end-of-project conference and website is January 2010.
