PRESENTATION: Better Factories, Better Conditions: Building the case for sustainable change
Rosey Hurst
Director, Impactt
Abstract: In order to improve workers conditions and improve managements’ attitude to workers’ rights there is a clear need to prove that improved workers’ rights can go hand in hand in with more productive sustainable businesses. Impactt’s response to this problem has been to develop a methodology which aims to tackle some of the root causes of poor labour standards and unhealthy attitudes to workers’ rights by improving factory productivity, human resources management and communication systems in order to create better jobs, with better pay. The paper will reflect on Impactt’s experiences of running 11 projects across India, Bangladesh and China to draw general conclusions to build the case for sustainable change.
